Vikas Gupta

Investment Director & IC Co-Chair, Shell Ventures

Vikas has over 20-years of experience in a variety of roles, including management consultancy, investment management, business development, and product management. Over the last decade, Vikas has been working in the renewable energy/clean tech space. He is currently an investment director and co-chair of the Power Investment Committee at Shell Ventures and his investment interests range from identifying new technologies and business models in the Power, Mobility and Carbon management space.
Before joining Shell, Vikas led strategic marketing and corporate development at First Solar. He led several venture investments, divestures, and M&A deals. He identified investment opportunities in new power generation technologies, new materials, energy storage technologies, Robotics and IOT technologies. While at First Solar he also led several Corporate Strategy, Market Incubation & Operations Improvement initiatives. He has led Product Management at several solar companies such as Schott Solar, Innovalight (acquired by Dupont) & Solaria. He led Business development at Oorja Protonics a direct methanol fuel cell company and was an Associate at Chrysalix Energy Management a Hydrogen Tech focused Venture Capital Firm. Vikas has also worked as Director at Silver Oak Partners (acquired by CGI) a management consulting firm and a Program Manager at Paraform (acquired by Nikon) a 3D design and Product Lifecycle Management software company. Vikas has an MBA in Finance from University of British Columbia and spent a semester at the Rotterdam School of Management. In addition, he has an MS from University of Cincinnati, a B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in Materials Science & Engineering. He is also joint inventor for two (2) US Patents. He loves travelling, photography, spicy food and snowboarding.
